Networking with Feature Film Producers, Saturday, January 31
Many people would rather go directly to the producer rather than rely and wait for obtaining an agent or manager which is one of the hardest tasks is to obtain representation. Still, others want to work with producers while having an agent in order to increase their chances of getting their film produced. This will offer you the opportunity to seize the opportunity of meeting with working professionals who make top films.

This class provides one of the biggest bangs for the buck where you can meet a lot of studio producers with a small investment of time and money. For those starting out, these guests will provide insight into Hollywood and for those experienced writers and filmmakers, these guests will expand your Hollywood contacts.
In addition to meeting with hard to reach studio development executives, you will get an opportunity to hear Hollywood professionals provide honest pitching feedback so that you can hone your pitch and script so that it may be much easier to sell.
This class differs from our executive class because the executive class is limited to 20 students. In the less expensive classes then junior level executives will be included as speakers.
As an extra bonus, we may have a few studio executives attend.
We are expecting 15 to 20+ speakers during the two day class with an increase in guests based on the number of students enrolled in the class.

People out of the audience will pitch their logline to the panel of experts publicly and these experts will provide a quick critique (yes, like it because or no, don't like it because) or actually interest in reviewing and possibly optioning the screenplay. Members of the audience will be chosen based on those who have not be chosen earlier in the day. This pitching feedback format session was used at the Expo last October to a sold out audience with standing room only. Not one person left the room and people were sitting on the floor in order to accomodate the overflow. Pitching sessions can costs hundreds of dollars but both the morning and afternoon pitching sessions are included in your admission. The panel will include both Sony development executives and independent producers.
Speakers will include:
Robert Kosberg (pitching king, 12 Monkeys)

Pitching Information
No one is forced to pitch. You can always pass on pitching but we encourage you to express your ideas so we can improve them so everyone can learn. The free pitching is to the entire panel and classroom. There is no private or 1 on 1 pitching. Getting to personally meet and compliment the speakers is strongly encouraged. We will select pitches based on those either volunteer and those who have paid for two full days.

BACKGROUND
Most writers would be fortunate enough just to get even one agent on the phone to talk about anything, due to the foreboding wall of gatekeepers, but with Sherwood Oaks, students get an opportunity to meet numerous agents and manager. This is an event that is very special and is not available anywhere else. The goal of this class is to obliterate that wall and provide extraordinary access to as many agents, managers, and attorneys as possible in a very short number of days.
And of course since all writers will get an opportunity to talk to each and every guest and give them material, there is always the possibility of gaining representation through a connection made during the sessions although it usually takes years and several classes before a connection is made. What we can guarantee is that this class will be of great assistance in eventually finding representation. Every class, at least one to two students gain representation.
Sherwood Oaks is a unique school that allows students to give agents, managers and attorneys material. Most schools, seminars, expos will abhor any of their students from giving any material to a professional guest since they are afraid of driving away guests and not having them come back. Sherwood Oaks encourages students to give one sheets to guests.

Pitching to Agents and Managers
Friday, April 23, 2010
We did a similar form of this in our January class and was so well received that we are doing a more intimate version of pitching. Most private pitching sessions cost $50 for 5 minutes. In this class, table pitching is encouraged. Each table is limited to approximately 8 students with an agent or manager. There will be at least 3 different table sessions where each student can pitch his/her log-line to an agent or manager. This class is limited to 30 students. In addition, you do not have to sign up for the Agent class to get this informative and career crucial day.
